Me and My Life

by

Aardvark, Armadillo & Fruitbat.

In deference to the seemingly standard home page format, I shall give you all a brief resume of my life.

Here's a picture of me.

I live in the Lake District, though have been wandering around the country since the tender age of nine. I went to school in Melrose, in the Scottish Borders, then onto Edinburgh. Then I went to the University of Aberdeen, where I attained a B.Sc.(Hons) in Physical Geography. Then off to the University of Cambridge where I did an M.Phil. in GIS and Remote Sensing.

At present I'm at the University of Manchester where I'm studying for a PhD, with the preliminary title "The relationship between remotely sensed and ground truth data for snow and ice surfaces."

And to justify the space that these pages take up on this ostensibly academic server I ought to say a wee bit more on my PhD work...

My main research interest is the remote sensing of terrestrial snow and ice using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR).

I shall be using data collected with the EMISAR sensor during the European Multisensor Airborne Campaign (EMAC) 94/95, over the Okstindan glacier in Northern Norway, and data collected in situ on the glacier.

You can read a full abstract of my thesis is you want.

Other interesting, related sites... And I have written my own Remote Sensing Pages which lists lots of sensors and platforms and other RS related sites.

Here's an example of an EMISAR image. Not of Okstindan (there aren't any yet!) but of an agricultural area in Sweden. The EMISAR is a multi-polarimetric C-Band SAR, and the image displayed here has the HV polarisation image sent to the red gun, HH to the green gun, and VV to the blue gun, hence the colourful image.
